Primroses (Primula vulgaris) along the edge of the ditch at the side of the road. I saw these on Good Friday after we had been to church and then to the Rector’s house to enjoy Hot Cross Buns.
The primroses this year are so abundant. They are everywhere!

Richard pointed these out to me. He had noticed them while he was cycling to church on Good Friday morning to strip the altar. After we got home we walked down the lane towards Rumburgh.
I am not sure if these pink primroses are the naturally occurring pink primroses or if they have spread from a garden. Primroses and cowslips hybridise very easily but as these ones are some way from the nearest house I hope that they are naturally pink. I have seen a number of pink ones on my travels this spring.

These are the primroses on the bank by St Margaret South Elmham church. I took the photo on our way home after the Easter morning service.
I think all the wild flowers have benefited from two milder winters and lots of rainfall. We had no time during last summer when it became too dry for the grass to grow.

The grass was starred with golden celandines. A few daffodils have been planted here too. More primroses at the edge of the ditch.

Just a few celandines with what looks like Great Willowherb (Epilobium hirsutum) leaf rosettes, a few Common (Stinging) Nettles (Urtica dioica) and Cow Parsley (Anthriscus sylvestris) shoots too.

A last photo of primroses. On the other side of the hedge are Jacob sheep with their lambs. I tried to photograph them but the hedge was so thick I couldn’t get the camera to stop focusing on the hedge instead of the lambs!
I hope you have enjoyed the flowers!
Before I publish this I must ask for your advice. I have been looking back at posts I published last April and have noticed that at least one has disappeared. I have not erased it myself, in fact I hadn’t looked at these posts since I published them. I have no idea when it/they disappeared. I remember a post about a trip to Covehithe – I still have the photos in my Media Library. Has this happened to anyone else? I don’t suppose there is any chance of my retrieving them; they are of no real value but I would like to know if there is anything I can do to get them back. I have mentioned this on the WordPress Forum but I have had no response.
I have not noted that problem with WP, yet, but have had it delete comments from my site, including my own. I would give the forum a few days to respond, then let them know which post is missing and have them restore it.

Thank-you Lavinia. I will see if I can get it back but if I don’t it won’t be the end of the world. I don’t want it to happen again, though!

It may very well happen again. There are ways of exporting and making backups yourself, but one thing I do that is easy is to “save page as” from my browser to my own computer hard drive. Firefox pulls in all the additional files, etc. I only post once a month so there isn’t a lot to save, but it might help me recreate a post in a pinch. I would see if the Forum Masters will restore your post, though.

Thank-you Lavinia. I will see what the Forum Masters can do for me.

When I google for it, I get two hits but then a No Article Found. https://asuffolklane.wordpress.com/tag/covehithe-church/ Not much help except that it is proof you wrote it. I don’t think this has happened to me. The primroses and wildflowers are lovely but the geese were really special. Are they friendly, or does one need to be wary of them?

Thank-you Gallivanta! I am not quite sure what I can do about it. The post was nothing special but I don’t like the idea of losing something I’ve written in case it happens again.
I think it is always best to be wary of geese! I really don’t know what these geese are like as I’ve never had the opportunity to get that close to them.

With WordPress, I find it’s quite easy for me to do things accidentally. I have been known to press Publish when I didn’t mean too, as well as send things to trash or spam when I didn’t mean too. Well, maybe that’s not a WordPress problem, but a clumsy finger problem on my part.

I have often published posts before I meant to! Really infuriating!

Your photos are so beautiful, Clare. Thanks for sharing. I’ve experienced some issues with posting new posts in WP. When I publish a new post, it will say it’s been published, but then it doesn’t appear on my blog. When I check my log of published posts, it will have that particular post, but with an older published date…very strange.

Thank-you, Jill. There are many things that I don’t understand!

I wish we had primroses growing alongside our roads like that.
I tried to find your missing post but didn’t have any luck, and if you search your blog for the word Covehithe you come up with only this post.
I always build my posts in MS Word. including photos. offline ahead of time and then just upload it the day of the post. I keep all the posts on an external drive, so that way I can never really lose anything. I hope you’ll find it.

Thank-you Allen. I ought to write my posts off-line but I have only very recently started using a computer (not ever having had the need to use one before) and I am very unsure how to go about doing things. I get used to one way and get reluctant to change!

Alan: Great idea. How do you do that? I compose the text in WORD too, but copying the photos from WORD to WordPress doesn’t work for me. I don’t know how.

I can’t copy the photos, just the text. I have to upload the photos to the image gallery and then insert them into the text in the appropriate places. The advantage is, you can never really lose anything.

Your primroses are certainly giving you full value. Ours are just starting to show by the road sides.
I should think about backing my posts up but whenever I do, my head hurts and I forget about it.

The primroses and all the flowers are beautiful!
I can’t help you on your lost post, hopefully WordPress can. You may want to occasionally export your blog and save it on your computer as a backup. But, I thought that WordPress kept a backup of all blogs, but I could be wrong.

Thanks Jerry. I will see if WordPress can help me retrieve these posts. I always thought that they would have backup but as I don’t know when these ones disappeared, or the dates I published them or even what they were called there may be problems!

The primrose = Latin for ‘first rose’. Your pictures reflect the freshness of spring.
Sorry – I do not know about the blog question, but I have noticed that a few of my photos also disappeared.

Thank-you Cynthia. I have had some of my photos disappear too but have always just replaced them. I don’t think these posts are of any value and if they can’t be retrieved I won’t be too disappointed. I would however, like to find out why and how and if possible stop it happening again.

Lovely primrose and priceless geese! Never seen the pink ones in the wild before too.
When it comes to mysteries and blogging: I have the problem that blog are I love are ‘unfollowed’ but not by me! And a fellow blogger has the problem that her posts often don’t appear in the reader…millions of people are blogging, so I have been told. Sometimes things are bound to wrong.

Thank-you, Johanna. I have found that I have ‘unfollowed’ someone (not by me) as well and it’s only when I haven’t received a post from them for a while that I discover what has happened. I also have found that a few posts haven’t appeared in the reader. I re-publish them if I think they are worth it. All very strange!

I liked seeing a photo of the house you live in – a good home, as Cynthia calls it.
Have you checked under All Posts? The missing posts may mysteriously have become unpublished. (I haven’t noticed this problem either.)

Thank-you Aggie. Yes, I have checked All Posts and they aren’t there unfortunately.

Excellent, I love your photos. I have not come across the problem of missing posts before but I will start to keep an eye on things just in case, it would be worrying to lose my hard work, I hope you get a response.

Thank-you Ste J. I hope I can sort it out too. I don’t want to lose any more and will probably write my posts using Word and then back-up in future.

You just reminded me to take a back-up. When I exported from my happenence.wordpress.com blog and imported into happenence.co.uk many of my older posts didn’t become live, they just remained as drafts. That’s not any use for you, but you’re not alone in having a few technical difficulties.
I love how the flowers are scattered along the backs. I’m going to have to compare your pictures to the flower at the end of my garden which I think might be an unexpected primrose.

I am such a novice at using a computer! When things go wrong I am at a real loss as to how to go about rectifying it. I hope your flower is a primrose – they are lovely flowers to have. They have a delicate scent as well.

Beautiful post dear Clare…. You are so lucky to be surrounded by those natural surroundings!!!!… Sigh! …. The primroses are very pretty and as soon as saw them I thought that they could perfectly be attributes of a greek god or goddess, don’t you think?…
… And another detail regarding them: their leaves are quite alike those of wild mint plants… I even have a few ones in my little garden… ⭐
Thanks for sharing and I hope you have a great day!… best wishes and a virtual hug to you. Aquileana 😀

Yes I agree, they could very well be attributes to a god or goddess; They are not only pretty but also very hardy and can survive through quite bad weather. They are very delicately scented. Like mint, they can also be eaten! Thank-you dear Aquileana! I hope you have a lovely weekend ❤

The primroses have been beautiful this year. Today I saw a wild primrose that was almost blue, it was only the novelty that was interesting, the pale yellow native primroses are the best. Sorry to hear about the WP problem, I hope its resolved. Love the photos of the geese too, very comical.

Thank-you, Julie. The blue primrose sounds interesting but, like you, I prefer the yellow ones.

Yes! They are just like them! We managed to hang on to the sunshine until the end of the day but it had got a bit hazy by then. Back to cold and wet again I’m afraid 😦
